Furukawa Electric Group Philosophy

CORPORATE PHILOSOPHY

Drawing on more than a century of expertise in the development and fabrication of advanced materials, we will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through continuous technological innovation.

Origins of the Furukawa Electric Group

The Furukawa Electric Group of which Furukawa Automotive Systems is a member traces its origins back to 1884. That year our founder, Ichibei Furukawa, started operations in copper smelting at his headquarters in Tokyo. Meanwhile Yoshichi Yamada began manufacturing aluminum wire in Takashimacho, Yokohama.

Later, Furukawa Electric supported Japan’s infrastructure with the world’s highest levels of quality and technical capability. To serve the booming demand in Japan for electrical power and communications, the Group laid the first made-in-Japan undersea cables and erected the antenna on Tokyo Tower, the largest in the world at the time.
Today Furukawa Group companies are engaged in industries such as finance, machinery, electrical wire, rubber, chemicals, electrical machinery, communication equipment, light metals and electronics, making active use of the distinctive characteristics of each business.

グローバルネットワーク

The Furukawa Electric Group has assembled a global network that provides speedy delivery of products with excellent quality at competitive prices. Through more than 120 companies in Japan and overseas, the Furukawa Electric Group conducts research, development, manufacturing and sales that serve the needs of customers and earn their trust.

Our four core technologies are “metals”, “photonics”, “polymers” and “high frequency”. And, in our six business fields of telecommunications, energy, automobiles, electrical parts and components, construction and architecture, and new business and products, we will continue to work to develop a diverse range of products. In addition to winning a No.1 world share, the products that we develop in our many business areas are contributing to society.

In May 2019, we renewed our Group vision, and formulated “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030”, looking far into the year 2030. We will incorporate this Group Vision into our next medium-term business plan to pursue the business fields creating the social infrastructure by integrating information, energy, and mobility.
